What is SUJO?

SUJO is a method of re-sequencing the body's movements through reformer-based exercise. This method was founded by Summer Jones after overcoming injuries during her professional ballet career. SUJO arises from Summer's dance expertise and her background in advanced mathematics. Through each injury recovery process she applied mathematical principles to analyze her body movements, allowing her to treat herself in ways that typical physical therapy sessions couldn't.

After an injury, the body learns to repeat dysfunctional movement patterns for self-preservation. These dysfunctional patterns are the source of most of our pain and repeat injuries. The SUJO method focuses on systematically re-sequencing these improper muscle movements into their natural state. With the encouragement of her client turned business partner, Ellen, she realized it was time to bring her method into a studio a format and develop a teaching program to share the SUJO Method.

INSTRUCTORS

Summer Jones

Creative Director, Founder, & Lead Instructor

Summer is the visionary behind the creation of the SUJO Method.  This revolutionary exercise method arose from her expertise in mathematics, ballet, and Pilates.  Summer’s degree in mathematics from both Fordham and University of San Diego has guided her understanding of human movement as both structural and dynamic.  She has over 20 years of experience in ballet performance and instruction with both adults and children, having worked with the School of American Ballet, Alvin Ailey at Fordham University, Steps on Broadway, New York University, and ballet schools in San Diego.  Summer has taught Pilates for over 10 years, incorporating alignment and holistic practices as the foundation of strength within the body.

Ellen Williams

Executive Director & Founder

As Managing Partner of COM Consulting, Ellen works with companies to address their business hurdles, freeing them to focus on their vision.  Ellen is an avid distance runner.  After a debilitating car accident, she had exhausted all surgical, physical therapy, massage, and medical recovery options, but she was still unable to resume her athletic lifestyle.  Unwilling to give up on the trail, she discovered SUJO.  Through her work with Summer, Ellen learned how to exercise and run without pain.  She was so impressed with the SUJO Method that she partnered with Summer to bring SUJO to the world.  Ellen earned her degree from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master's of Education from the University of San Diego, a Master's of Finance from Harvard University Extension, and a J.D. from University of San Diego.
